Accessibility on this web site

Your access to the information on this web site is important to us. We are working to ensure that the information on this site is accessible to all people, particularly those with disabilities.

General design features

  • Text sizes on this site are flexible so that they can be re-sized in most modern browsers.
    • Internet Explorer version 7:
      • To quickly magnify the page, click on the magnifying glass zoom in the bottom right corner of the browser window. This cycles through magnifications of 125%, 150% and 100% and also increases the size of images on the page.
      • To magnify the page in 10% increments, press Ctrl + on the keyboard to zoom in (increase the page size) and Ctrl - to zoom out.
      • To increase text size only (and not make the whole page wider), open the Page menu (keyboard users press Alt P), move down to select Text Size then across to select the appropriate size from the pop out list.
    • Internet Explorer version 6: Open the View menu (keyboard users press Alt V), select Text Size then select the appropriate size from the pop out list.
    • Firefox browser: Press keys Ctrl + to increase text size and Ctrl - to decrease it.
    • Opera browser: Press + to increase the text size in 10% increments and press - to decrease text size.
    • For other browsers please read the Help information provided with the browser.
  • For more detailed information on how to change text size, plus how to alter colours if our choices make viewing difficult for you, please visit the BBC's My Web My Way.
  • Valid, best-practice web page coding (HTML and CSS) has been used to help ensure the content is available however you access it, such as using the latest Internet Explorer web browser, a text only browser, screen reading software for visually impaired people and even a web capable mobile phone.

Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict Valid CSS!

Navigation features

  • A "skip to page contents" link is provided at the top of each page to allow users to easily skip over navigation links and go directly to the main page contents.
  • The site is organised into six major sections: News, About Us, Worship, Music, Church Life and Resources. A second skip link "skip to section links" is provided to go directly to the navigation choices for the current section.
  • On the home page, the hidden links at the top of the page are a direct link to this Accessibility page, the "skip to page contents" link and a "skip to feature links" which will take you to links for useful pages, coming events and new pages on this site.
  • These links are out of sight for regular users but are read by screen readers for visually impaired people and become visible when the mouse hovers over them and for users browsing via the keyboard Tab key, usually because of impaired mobility.
  • Note: For the Opera browser using the Shift key with the arrow keys is a better method for jumping around the web page to the link you wish to activate. Alternatively, you may use the A key to cycle forward through the page's hyperlinks and Q to cycle backwards.

Headings

  • Visitors using recent versions of screen readers can navigate among headings on each page using the following keystrokes:
    • H to cycle forwards through the headings
    • Shift H to cycle backwards through the headings
    • 1 to navigate to the next level 1 heading (or a number between 1 and 6 to navigate to the next heading on this level)
    • Shift 1 to navigate to the previous level 1 heading (or a number between 1 and 6 to navigate to the previous heading on this level)
  • For visitors using Opera, the following keys can be used to navigate headings:
    • S to cycle forwards through the headings
    • W to cycle backwards through the headings

Known Barriers

We regularly check the accessibility and appearance of web pages in the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. Being unpaid volunteers, we check other browsers only occasionally and don't have the resources to extensively test assistive technologies.
